Dental Conditions that Can Be Corrected with Full Mouth Reconstruction

February 04, 2013 @ 10:00 AM -- by Dr. Jean Barthman

Redwood City Full Mouth ReconstructionMany people have an image of the ideal appearance they’d like for their smile, but most don’t think that goal is attainable. Dr. Jean E. Barthman’s patients are happy to learn that their dream smile could actually become a reality. At Dr. Barthman’s Redwood City cosmetic dentistry practice, full mouth reconstruction can be customized to correct a wide variety of dental conditions. Full mouth reconstruction is actually a combination of cosmetic and restorative dental procedures that are combined to give patients significantly improved oral health and aesthetics. Dr. Barthman can tailor the treatment plan to correct any combination of the following dental conditions:

  • Stains or discolored teeth:Teeth that have stains or have become discolored can negatively impact the appearance of the smile. There are a number of procedures that can be included in full mouth reconstruction to correct this problem. Depending on the severity of the condition, Dr. Barthman may recommend teeth whitening, dental bonding, porcelain crowns, or porcelain veneers. Dr. Barthman also offers microabrasion, a procedure that can remove white spots from the teeth.
  • Tooth decay: Tooth decay is another common dental condition that should be addressed immediately. Dr. Barthman will examine the degree of tooth decay and determine the most appropriate treatment. This may include tooth-colored fillings or dental crowns.
  • Misaligned teeth: There are many treatments available to correct misaligned teeth. When the teeth are severely out of place, patients should consider treatment with Invisalign, a more comfortable and convenient alternative to traditional braces. To correct the appearance of teeth that have minor spacing or alignment issues, porcelain veneers can be placed on the surface of the teeth.
  • Injured or fractured teeth: While small chips or fractures can be repaired through the process of dental bonding or with the application of porcelain veneers, if the strength of the tooth has been compromised by an injury, a more suitable treatment will be a porcelain crown.
  • Missing teeth: Patients who have experienced adult tooth loss will have options to consider for replacing the missing teeth. Our patients can address tooth loss with dental crowns, dental bridges, or dentures. For our patients in Redwood City, dental implants are the most popular choice for anchoring these dental fabrications. Dental implants provide a secure and long lasting foundation for artificial teeth.
  • Gum disease: If the gums are not healthy, the teeth are more vulnerable to dental problems. Dr. Barthman offers a deep cleaning, known as scaling and planing, to restore the health of the gums. If more invasive care is required, Dr. Barthman will recommend an appropriate treatment.
  • TMJ disorder: TMJ disorder is a condition where the upper and lower jaw bone click out of place and do not line up properly. This can be a painful condition and may damage the teeth as well. Dr. Barthman can treat this condition with splints, mouth guards, medication, and/or restorative dental treatments.
