A woman with a radiant, white smile after in-office teeth whitening with Zoom!®Professional in-office teeth whitening is one of the safest, most transformative procedures in all of cosmetic dentistry for appropriate candidates. Jean E. Barthman, D.D.S. is pleased to offer her patients the number-one patient-requested professional whitening brand in the United States: the state-of-the-art Zoom!® teeth whitening system. In-office whitening with Zoom!® allows patients to dramatically lighten or altogether remove stains caused by coffee, tea, tobacco, sodas, and dark foods while restoring a natural radiance to their teeth. Best of all, the Zoom!® system produces dramatic results - teeth that are multiple shades whiter for five years or longer with proper oral hygiene habits and avoidance of staining agents - in less than an hour!

Zoom!® teeth whitening is just one of many cosmetic dentistry procedures available at the practice of Dr. Barthman. Candidates for teeth whitening can undergo the procedure on its own or in combination with other cosmetic dentistry treatments as part of a comprehensive smile makeover tailored to their precise needs and goals.

To learn more about Zoom!® in-office teeth whitening, please schedule your initial consultation with Jean E. Barthman, D.D.S. today.

How Does Zoom!® In-Office Teeth Whitening Work?

The beauty of the Zoom!® in-office teeth whitening procedure lies in its simplicity. You will first meet with Dr. Barthman for a confidential, one-on-one consultation during which she will examine your teeth and mouth to ensure your candidacy for the procedure. Zoom!® teeth whitening is best suited to patients who are in good oral and overall health, without advanced gum disease, loose or cracked teeth, or other dental problems. Patients with porcelain veneers, dental crowns, or other dental restorations should understand that Zoom!® will only whiten natural teeth and not these restorations. Many patients therefore elect to combine their teeth whitening treatment with the subsequent replacement of their existing restorations to ensure uniform results.

The Zoom!® procedure begins with the application of a hydrogen peroxide-based gel to the surfaces of the teeth, which are carefully isolated from the gums to protect the delicate periodontal tissues from harm. Upon exposure to the proprietary Zoom!® light, the gel breaks down and penetrates the enamel. This is important because, over time, many stains that began as superficial also penetrate the enamel and reside beneath the surface, which is why they no longer respond to basic tooth brushing and flossing.

The hydrogen peroxide in the Zoom!® gel breaks apart the carbon bonds responsible for the stains caused by tea, coffee, tobacco, soda, red wine, and other staining agents. The gel is left on the teeth for 15 minutes and then removed. This process is repeated twice more, and the procedure is complete.

Zoom!® is most effective at removing extrinsic (i.e., surface) stains that are yellowish in hue, though it can improve the appearance of virtually any stain. Patients can emerge from treatment with teeth that are up to 10 shades whiter. Results can last for five years or longer; however, relapse is likely if patients continue to consume the staining agents responsible for the discoloration in the first place.

With regular brushing, flossing, and visits to our cosmetic dentistry practice, along with avoidance of staining agents and proper use of the Zoom!® touch-up kit provided with treatment, patients can look forward to years of beautiful, bright smiles
