Porcelain Veneers for Crooked Teeth
Are you looking to correct your crooked teeth? A straighter smile can be yours, and much sooner than you might think. With custom-made porcelain veneers, your smile can be brighter and straighter within a month. Rather than undergoing orthodontic care, it’s possible to treat crooked teeth with porcelain veneers.
Join Dr. Jean E. Barthman at our practice in Redwood City, CA, as we discuss how porcelain veneers may help you achieve the smile of your dreams.
Faster Treatment Plan Than Other Options
Porcelain veneer treatment is relatively short, especially compared to braces or Invisalign®. With only two to three visits, you can have a brand new smile to show off. The first appointment will be a consultation where we examine your teeth and devise a treatment plan.
During your second visit, we may prep your teeth by removing enamel. We also offer prepless veneers, which are less invasive compared to traditional veneers. Following this second visit, we will send out impressions of your teeth to be designed and made by our partner dental lab.
After about two weeks, your finished veneers will be ready for placement. Using dental cement, the dentist bonds the veneers to the front surfaces of your prepped teeth.
Advantages Over Other Treatments
When it comes to cosmetic dentistry treatments for crooked teeth, porcelain veneers are one of the most popular–and with good reason. They have numerous advantages over other options for straightening teeth:
- Achieve a new smile sooner. Within a few weeks, your dentist can apply porcelain veneers and straighten your smile. You can start showing off a new smile much sooner than you would with orthodontic treatment, which can take months or even years.
- Whiten your smile. Using porcelain veneers, you can not only straighten your teeth, you can also whiten your smile. This leads to comprehensive aesthetic enhancement.
- Avoid invasive procedures. Other options for straightening teeth, such as Invisalign or braces, are certainly effective. However, they usually take longer and are more invasive. Actually moving teeth is a lengthier process than placing veneers.
Candidates for Porcelain Veneers
Good candidates for porcelain veneers should be in good overall dental health. Veneers can treat the following problems with tooth alignment:
- Tooth gaps
- Twisted teeth
- Uneven tooth size
- Smile asymmetry
During your visit to our Redwood City practice, we will assess the health of your smile and determine if porcelain veneers are right for you.
Taking Care of Veneers
If you are considering porcelain veneers, or have already received them, it is important to take steps to keep them healthy. We offer these suggestions for keeping your veneers in peak condition:
- Brush twice a day. Make sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush, and to brush your teeth for a full two minutes. Your gums and teeth will thank you, and your veneers will stay shiny.
- Floss daily. Flossing can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease down the road. Floss at least once a day.
- Avoid smoking or chewing tobacco. Tobacco products damage your teeth and gums. Avoid smoking to keep your smile healthy and your veneers pristine.
- Avoid hard foods. Veneers can chip and crack like natural teeth, so be careful with hard foods like nuts, candies, and fruits with pits.
- Avoid nail biting and chewing on ice. Like hard foods, these habits can cause your veneers to crack, chip, or become dislodged.
