Restorative Dentistry

Tooth-colored Fillings, Dentures, and More - San Mateo, Menlo Park, Palo Alto

Invisalign® Dr. Jean Barthman sees dentistry as both an art and a science.  As part of her commitment to crafting a beautiful, healthy smile, she offers an extensive line of top-notch restorative dental services, including dental implants, TMJ treatment, comprehensive exams, tooth-colored fillings, and dentures.  If you live in San Mateo, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, or another area near our Redwood City dental spa, we invite you to read more about our services and to contact our office if you have any additional questions!  We look forward to helping you achieve the smile you deserve.

Tooth-colored Fillings

Invisalign® Historically, dentists would fill and seal cavities using a silver and mercury amalgam, called a filling.  Composite, or tooth-colored fillings, are considered a stronger, safer, and more natural-looking alternative to mercury.  In addition to Redwood City, we offer tooth-colored fillings to patients in Palo Alto, San Mateo, and nearby areas.

What Are Tooth-colored Fillings?

Made of a thin but durable tooth-colored resin, tooth-colored fillings are virtually undetectable and can be used on back teeth.  Tooth-colored fillings are bonded to the tooth and require the removal of less tooth structure, adding strength and allowing you to keep more of your natural tooth.  Tooth-colored fillings are harder and more durable than amalgam fillings, so they can be expected to last for many years.

Benefits of Tooth-colored Fillings

Patients who select tooth-colored fillings say the color and appearance blend so well with their natural teeth that they look ‘invisible,' meaning you can chew, talk, and smile with confidence!  In addition, tooth-colored fillings can add strength and durability to your teeth while enhancing the overall appearance of your smile.  If you want to learn more about how you can benefit from tooth-colored fillings and you live in Palo Alto, San Mateo, or another area near our Redwood City dental spa, please contact Jean Barthman, D.D.S., today to schedule a consultation.

Dentures – Replacement of Missing Teeth

Tooth loss can occur due to injury, gum disease, or tooth decay. People who are missing some or all of their teeth may have difficulties with speaking and chewing as well as lower self-confidence.  A number of options are available for those seeking to replace lost teeth.  Dr. Jean Barthman recommends and uses bridges and dental implants, as well as partial and full dentures to help her patients from Menlo Park and surrounding areas achieve beautiful, complete smiles.

Full Dentures

Dentures can restore function and beauty to a smile when a person loses all of his or her natural teeth. Not only can dentures improve your appearance, but they are also beneficial to your dental health.  When teeth are missing, facial tissues lose vital support and can begin to sag, making you appear older than you really are. Dentures restore the support to facial muscles and improve speaking and chewing ability. Dentures can replace more than just missing teeth; they can restore your confidence in your smile as well.

Partial Dentures (Dental Bridges)

When an individual loses several teeth but has some natural teeth remaining around the gap, Dr. Barthman may recommend partial dentures (a dental bridge).  Partial dentures consist of a replacement tooth connected to two crowns. The crowns cover the teeth adjacent to the gap, creating the "bridge." The beauty of a bridge is that not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but in many cases it also makes chewing and speaking easier.

Dental Implants

Dr. Barthman offers implant dentistry consultations and restorations at our Redwood City dental spa.  Patients looking into their tooth-replacement options should consider dental implants.  Implant-supported restorations are much more comfortable and longer lasting than tooth-supported ones. Dental implants are also better for overall dental health because they anchor crowns and full or partial dentures securely to the jawbone.  If you live in Menlo Park or another area near our practice, contact Dr. Barthman to determine if implants are the best way to restore your smile.

TMJ Treatment

Dr. Barthman provides outstanding neuromuscular dentistry treatments to alleviate headaches, jaw pain, and other symptoms of TMJ disorder.  Advanced neuromuscular techniques address the cause of TMJ pain – misalignment of the jaw and cranio-facial joints and muscles – by bringing the jaw into alignment while helping the facial, neck, and back muscles relax.  TMJ treatment options include TENSing, orthotic splints, restorations, and medications.

If you need treatment for TMJ pain, dental implants, tooth-colored fillings, or dentures, we would love to help.  Patients in Menlo Park and other areas near our Redwood City dental spa can expect exceptional care by Dr. Barthman and her team, so contact us to schedule a consultation. We look forward to hearing from you!

Comprehensive Exams

At the office of Dr. Barthman, our number-one concern is providing you with a healthy and beautiful smile.  We believe that begins with a complete examination of your mouth.  Dental care at Dr. Jean Barthman's office begins with a comprehensive exam.  During your first visit, our friendly office staff will examine your mouth for cavities, tooth fractures, and fractured fillings.  We will also look at the alignment of your teeth, checking to make sure they are not lining up in a way that could cause health problems such as chronic headaches, sinus pressure, or temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), which could lead to neck and joint pain.  X-rays are usually a part of the comprehensive exams; they help us gain an in-depth understanding of your mouth and its health.  These are not painful and can be completed quickly.  The information we gather in your comprehensive exam allows Dr. Barthman to formulate the best treatment plan to restore your smile.
