Smiling brunette shows off attractive smileAt Dr. Jean Barthman’s Redwood City, CA, practice, we offer many cosmetic dentistry treatment options that can be combined into a customized instant smile makeover. This comprehensive treatment plan delivers dramatic aesthetic results that can save you time and money.

If you are not familiar with our cosmetic treatment options, read on to learn which cosmetic procedures can be combined to improve the appearance of your smile.

Treatment Options

A revamped smile can enhance your features and even leave you looking several years younger. Once your smile makeover has been carefully planned by one of our doctors, a time will be set for your procedures to be performed. Your customized treatment plan may include any of the following cosmetic procedures for instant results:

Teeth Whitening

Aging and the cumulative effects of drinking coffee and tea can leave the teeth looking yellow or dark in color. Teeth whitening is a safe treatment that lifts stains without altering your natural tooth structure. We offer in-office treatment that can brighten your smile by several shades.

The cosmetic results last around three years. Taking steps to avoid stain-causing foods and drinks can prolong the results of your teeth whitening treatment.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are placed on the front of anterior teeth. Veneers require two visits, so your teeth may need to be prepared before your smile makeover is complete. Still, the entire process can typically be completed within two weeks or less.

Veneers can hide a wide range of cosmetic problems. Even minor alignment issues can be addressed using veneers. When carefully maintained, veneers can last for 10 or more years.

Cosmetic Bonding

Minor aesthetic concerns, including chips, discoloration, and gaps, can be addressed with the use of tooth-colored composite resin. The material can be artfully placed to enhance the appearance of one or more teeth; a special blue light is then used to harden the bonding material. The results of dental bonding can last a few years.

Porcelain Crowns

Crowns are used for restorative and cosmetic purposes. If your tooth is small, misshaped, severely discolored, or otherwise damaged, we can fit you with a porcelain crown that encases your tooth in a protective cap. Porcelain matches the natural luster of enamel.

To receive a porcelain crown, the outer layer of the tooth must first be removed. Our office works with advanced dental labs that can fabricate your crown to exacting standards. Once placed, your restoration will be blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Gum Contouring

If you have a gummy smile, one of our doctors can remove small amounts of gum tissue to enhance your smile. The safe and effective procedure is performed using a special laser. The laser can adjust an uneven gum line or enhance the appearance of the teeth by removing excess soft tissue. Laser technology reduces bleeding and increases healing time compared to scalpel-based procedures.
